BOARD HIGHLIGHTS

Meeting, October 19, 2009

  • Supported changing publishing months of Viewpoint to March, May, September, and December.
  • Motion to approve letters be sent to Cheri DeNovo, MPP, and the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing supporting Bill 198, Planning Amendment Act.

Meeting, November 23, 2009

  • Motion approving letter be sent to HUMA (Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development, and the Status of Persons with Disabilities) supporting the passage of Bill C304 for a National Housing Strategy.
  • Request from Status of Women Committee of the House of Commons that CPC appear before it via teleconference Tuesday, November 24th. [See article Women and Pensions in this issue]
  • Motion to write a letter in support of MPP Mario Sergio's private member's Bill 214 calling for the installation of sprinklers in all care homes built before 1998.

Meeting, December 7, 2009

  • The Research Committee will do a literature review on the issue of Rural Homelessness.
  • A letter regarding membership will be inserted in the next Viewpoint.

Meeting, January 18, 2010

  • Attention was drawn to the Alzheimer Society's report, Rising Tide, which discusses the potential impact of the incidence of dementia and the ageing population.
  • The Metro Toronto Chapter sent letters to the Board of School Trustees in Toronto and other School Boards calling for consideration of using schools for community consultations on alternative uses rather than just closing them.
  • Motion to approve in principle the draft Framework for Ageing prepared by a sub-committee of the Ontario Senior Secretariat Liaison Committee.
  • Pending legal advice, a motion to change the common usage name of CPC will be presented to the February Board meeting.
