Following the Ontario Health Coalition (OHC) Conference November 2, 2007 (see Viewpoint November 2007, page 11), the OHC held a Health ACTION Assembly at St. Vladimir's Institute, Toronto on November 3rd. It distributed the Ontario Health Coalition 2007-2008 Draft Action Plan for review and discussion.

The principal theme of the document is to "draft a Health Care Accountability Act, promoting public access to information that enables the public to engage in public policy questions regarding access, quality and cost; proper democratic accountability; parity in regulation between the non- and for-profit sections; democratic election of hospital and homecare boards with provisions to ensure that these boards reflect the diversity of the communities they serve; and, proper public consultation. The new Act should cover the hospitals, labs and diagnostic clinics, nursing homes and homecare. OHC will work to establish parity across the homecare, nursing home and hospital sectors."
