REPORT FROM THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT

Winnie Fraser-Mackay, CPC National President, arrived in Toronto for the Ontario Division Annual General Meeting following a stimulating visit with groups in British Columbia and Alberta. In all her visits across Canada she has found that seniors groups are very active and their issues are similar. However, their voices aren't heard, because they must link up together to change this. CPC is working toward unity and will continue to do so.

At present there are five divisions of CPC: Ontario, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia COSCO (Council of Senior Citizens Organization). Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, Yukon, Northwest Territories and British Columbia 411 are considering joining and talks are underway with Quebec and Nunavut. Each province is being asked to put their issues in priority and present them to the National Board.

CPC National has been invited to send representation to the Steering Committee of Canadian Coalition of Mental Health. This invitation has been accepted. Delegates from National also will attend the 2008 Conference in Vancouver, September 3 and 4.

Ms. Fraser-Mackay left Toronto to meet with senior groups in New Brunswick.

[Ed. note] Ms. Fraser-Mackay could only touch on the many exciting undertakings across Canada. Therefore, we will be asking groups to write about their activities for future issues of Viewpoint.
