BOARD HIGHLIGHTS
Meeting October 20, 2008
- Motion to adopt the OPMHAN speakers' bureau project and accept responsibility for it and its administration.
[Ed. note] This project is concerned with depression and similar problems. Details are being finalized now and there will be an article about it in a forthcoming issue.
- A letter was written to the Minister of Community Services regarding grandparents caring for their grandchildren and the loss of government financial support.
- Application will be made for a New Horizons Capital Assistance Grant to purchase equipment and furniture for the office.
Meeting November 17, 2008
- Motion to write to the Provincial Ombudsman who is preparing a report on home care. The letter to include a copy of the CPC Brief of January 17, 2007 on LTC Homes and encourage the Ombudsman's Office to work with the Ministry of Health and the Long Term Care Project which is preparing the regulations and second Cabinet submission in February.
- The main part of this meeting was devoted to a discussion about capacity building for CPC. Some of the subjects covered were: How has CPC's environment changed and what can we do about it? What is distinctive about CPC? Why should individuals and organization want to join us? How can we retain and increase individual membership? How can we increase organizational membership? How can we strengthen existing branches and encourage new ones to form?
Meeting December 15, 2008
- The Membership Committee has developed a work plan for the new year which includes preparing a new brochure aimed at recruiting younger seniors, creating a new display board to be used at events, developing a list of information fairs to attend, and assisting the AGM Committee in highlighting CPC's accomplishments over the past 40 years.
- The discussion about capacity building continued.
